Cable & Wireless integrated communications network enables Ryanair to
enhance customer services
Amsterdam, 31 July 2001 - Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications
group, today announced the supply of integrated communications and IP
services to Ryanair, Aviation magazine's 'World's Best Managed Airline'*.
Each of Ryanair's 45 sites throughout the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe
has been connected to Cable & Wireless' Internet Protocol (IP) based data
network with call centre telephone systems and in-bound international voice
services also included in the package.
The network has enabled Ryanair to develop faster and better-integrated
customer services and reduce costs, thus helping it deliver on its
commitment to offer lower fares to customers. Importantly for Ryanair, the
global reach and scalability of Cable & Wireless' network means that new
routes can be added to the system very quickly.
The IP service handles nine million passengers for ninety thousand flights
and will enable Ryanair to migrate its two current IT networks onto one
integrated network, with the option of adding its voice communications onto
the same network during the course of the contract. The system connects
multiple call centres and check-in desks at forty-five Ryanair
destinations, updates booking information in real-time and integrates with
WAP mobile phone services
The benefits for Ryanair include:
- Lower costs from integrating two networks
- Faster booking and transaction times
- A technologically advanced, scalable communications solution which can
grow with the business
Commenting on why Ryanair chose to partner with Cable & Wireless, Brona
Kernan Head of IT at Ryanair said, "Our strategy for growth is about
continually expanding the boundaries of lower airline travel costs. Our
vision is based on eliminating unnecessary costs including agency margins,
IT support and administration. With Cable & Wireless, we found an
international business partner which not only has the destinations to fit
our growing needs, but also has the drive to design a network which enables
us to develop faster and better services which allow us to deliver on our
customer promise."
Peter Green, President Business Markets, Cable & Wireless added, "This
contract is testament to the scalability of Cable & Wireless' solutions. We
have worked with Ryanair for some six years in the provision of the
essential communications infrastructure needed to underpin its growth into
a major European player."
* Ryanair was awarded Aviation magazine's 'World's Best Managed Airline'
award for June 2001 for the third year running.
