Chelsea FC Visits Korea for Friendly Match with Suwon Samsung

SEOUL , Korea - May 19, 2005 : The official press conference for the "
Samsung Mobile Invitational: Chelsea FC vs. Suwon Bluewings" friendly
soccer match was held today at the Shilla Hotel. The first ever
friendly game between the two clubs will be played at the Suwon World
Cup Stadium at 19:00 on May 20 (Friday) and will pit the 2004/2005
English Premier League Champions Chelsea FC against the 2004 Korean
League and Asian A3 Champions Cup winner Suwon Samsung Bluewings.
Chelsea 's trip to Korea provides an opportunity for the team to build
a global relationship with its fans in Asia and coincides with an
agreement signed by Samsung Electronics on April 25 to become Chelsea
FC's new official club sponsor. The five year deal starting on June 1,
2005 is the biggest ever sponsorship deal signed by Chelsea and the
second largest by Samsung after its sponsorship of the Olympic Games.
The deal gives Samsung exclusivity with Chelsea in product categories
such as mobile phones, AV, white goods and IT equipment as well as a
range of marketing activities to support and strengthen the value of
both brands on a global scale.
oday's press conference was attended by Samsung corporate and
Bluewings officials including Mr. Insoo Kim (CEO & President of
Samsung Electronics Europe HQ) , Mr. Woosik Chu (Senior Vice President
of Samsung Electronics), Chelsea officials including Mr. Peter Kenyon
(Chelsea FC CEO), head coach and team captain from both teams, and
members of the domestic and international media.
At the press conference, head coaches Jose Mourinho of Chelsea and
Bum-Keun Cha of the Bluewings exchanged team shirts. The May 20
friendly will mark the field debut of the new Chelsea Centenary
jerseys to be worn from next season and which features the "Samsung
Mobile" logo in the front .
Mr. Chu of Samsung commented: "Samsung is a leading global brand in

Chelsea is making its mark on the world stage as one of the rising
stars of football, and the association with the club will not only
help drive and enhance Samsung's image on a global scale but also
allow us to get even closer to our customers."

Samsung as our new official club sponsor. The company is one of the
world's largest brand names, and we are excited about what it can
offer Chelsea ."

through sponsorship of the Olympic Games and in football through its
ownership of the Suwon Bluewings at home and as official sponsor of
the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the mobile category,
sponsoring all Asian regional qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup and
the AFC Champions League.
