The consortium of the Damocles climate research project and the
European Commission Directorate General for Research are organizing a
scientific-political Symposium in Brussels about climate research in
the Arctic. Over 150 experts are expected to attend the event
scheduled from 10 to 12 November 2009 in Brussels.
Under the title "The Arctic Climate system, its present status, future
evolution and potential impacts" the symposium is intended to describe
near future scientific and technological challenges for a better
understanding of the Climate system. This is extremely important at a
time of human-induced rapid environmental changes.
During the three days of the conference there will be 8 plenary
scientific sessions. One highlight is the projection of the
award-winning television documentary "Tara - Journey to the Heart of
the Climate Machine" coproduced with the European Commission
Directorate General for Research. A special screening will take place
on 11th of November 2009 at 20:15 at the Flagey cinema, Place Ste
Croix 1050 Brussels. Involved arctic scientists as well as film
director and producers will be present.
The scientists participating at the symposium will publish a joint
declaration concerning the future of climate research at a press
conference on 12th November 12:30. The declaration will be available
on the internet at www.damocles-eu.org/
