Xavier DEGON and Antonin GUY, the Electric Odyssey crew, kicked off their journey on the 11th of February 2012 from Strasbourg, France, for the first world tour in a standard electric car: 25 000 kilometers (= 15 500 miles), 8 months, 17 countries and 250 euros (= 320 dollars) of electricity.
In response to environmental issues, the goal of this adventure is to promote the image of electric cars to the public at large and to reassure people about its use (its autonomy, its safety, how it can be charged, etc.).
"If we can do a world tour in a standard electric car, you can use it for your daily rides!" To manage this challenge, each day the crew will have to convince the inhabitants of the countries crossed to let them access their electric outlets. These hundreds of recharges will be as many opportunities to meet people all along the 25 000 km (15 500 miles) travelled. One can follow the adventures of Antonin and Xavier in real time thanks to their website (notably by geolocalization and through social networks).
This world premiere was made possible thanks to the commitment of nine players in the French electric car field: Avere-France, Strasbourg, CITROËN, AXA Assistance, the Alsace Region, Capgemini Consulting, EDF, GEFCO and Orange.
