Button sidelined by gearbox problemMcLaren?s Jenson Button was restricted to just 22 laps around Singapore?s Marina Bay Circuit after a gearbox issue left him sidelined for most of the second practice session. We have some good ideas as to what we can do with the car tomorrow. It?s only an hour but we?ll make good progress. Jenson Button McLaren Button completed 12 laps in an early evening session shortened to 60 minutes by track repairs, but the 2009 champion ran for just 10 laps in the later session after he ran wide and then suffered a gearbox problem that left him stranded. ?I locked up into turn 14 and just kept out of the barriers. Then I selected reverse and started to go back slowly and suddenly I had no drive in reverse so that was it really,? he said. ?I tried to turn the car but there wasn?t enough room. I tried to go backwards and there was no reverse again, so I?m guessing there?s something wrong somewhere! However, they haven?t opened the gearbox up yet, so we?ll see what happens.? Button admitted that the lack of running has dented his hopes of a successful weekend but insisted that he would try to maximise the hour of practice remaining early on Saturday evening. ?I didn?t get much running today and I didn?t have a great set-up so I was really disappointed because I couldn?t improve,? he said. ?But we have some good ideas tomorrow as to what we can do with the car. It?s only an hour but we?ll make some good progress.? Predictably, the McLaren driver pointed to Red Bull Racing?s Sebastian Vettel as the main threat but also indicated that Ferrari?s race pace looked impressive. ?Sebastian and Red Bull are very fast but Ferrari are very fast on long runs,? he said. ?I think looking at the TV, and looking at the times, everyone is going to struggle in the race with tyre wear. It seems people are overheating even in three laps. You?d say the tyres are a little bit too soft around here but then again you don?t have the grip on lap one. But it?s the same for everyone though so we just have to make the best of it.?
