Ahmedabad: Recognising the need to curb wastage of energy, Tata
Power, India's largest integrated power utility, took the lead
and started a unique initiative of energy conservation through
schoolchildren, called Tata Power Club Enerji. Today, through
this novel initiative, over 4.3 million citizens have been
sensitised across the country and more 5.8 million units of
electricity have been saved till date.
In 2011-12, Tata Power Club Enerji sensitised over 14,800
children across 15 schools in Ahmedabad. These children have
further reached out to more than 1,09,000 people, thereby taking
the total sensitisation figure to over 1,23,876 citizens. These
citizens have saved more than 2,47,647 units of electricity in
the year. The club has 1,554 Energy Champions, more than 2,154
Energy Ambassadors and 49 mini Tata Power Club Enerjis across the
city this year. The energy saving programme has also been taken
up as project work in various city schools.
The club has been active in Ahmedabad for over three years and
has sensitised more than 3,09,829 citizens who have saved
6,66,817 units of energy till date. The club has 3,695 Energy
Champions and 7,561 Energy Ambassadors in Ahmedabad till date.
Speaking on the occasion, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata
Power, said, 'We are proud of the achievement of these young
children and appreciate the support given to them by their
teachers and principals. These students of Ahmedabad continue to
spearhead the movement of energy conservation and have achieved a
great milestone, and we hope they continue the good work in the
years to come!'
Tata Power Club Enerji is active in schools in ten prominent
cities of India viz Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune,
Jamshedpur, Lonavla, Belgaum, Haldia, Bengaluru and Kolkata. It
aims at creating awareness among school students, who in turn
sensitise their families and neighbourhood to curtail energy
wastage through dynamic and innovative measures.
